*The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because your body and your fact are really good friends by now and don't want to part company.
*The easiest way to find something you lost is to buy a replacement.
*If you think there is good in everybody, then you haven't really met everyone yet.
*If you can smile when things go wrong, then you probably have someone in mind to blame.

*After several blown calls over the weekend, including a controversial decision in the Seattle Seahawks/Green Bay Packers' game, the National Football League has reached a tentative agreement to get their referees back to work. The main issue? Whether or not the refs deserved a pension.
*Preparations are on schedule for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
*Sumo wrestler Harumafuji Kohei has been named the 70th yokozuna in the sport.

IN ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:
*The world has lost entertainer Andy Williams.
*Winners of the 64th annual Emmy Awards include:

The Occupy Wall Street movement celebrated its first anniversary this past week.
This is the 25th anniversary of both Star Trek: The Next Generation and our eternal search wondering Where's Waldo?
September is the 30th anniversary of Knight Rider on television.
This month marks the 50th anniversary of The Beverly Hillbillies television debut.
Perry Mason defended his first client on television 55 years ago this month.
This week marks the 75th anniversary of the first publication of The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Amongst events that have happened around the world this past week:
*Incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama has won The Free Choice E-zine's endorsement for reelection as a result of our readers' surveys.
*Debate over the Senkaku Islands has resulted in violence against Japanese holdings in China. Chinese holdings in Japan have been sights of similar protests, with no violence reported.
*Civil unrest continues in Syria.
*Protests, and some violence, still continue around Middle Eastern United States Embassies and holdings in the aftermath of the release of the "Innocence of Muslims" trailer, but thankfully with no new deaths reported.
*No DNA evidence of suspect Julian Assange has been found after examining a used condom in his pending rape trial.
*Pending review and acceptance of a new contract, the temporary teachers strike in Chicago, USA has been settled, with educators and students now back in school.
*New religious debates have arisen after Harvard Divinity School Doctor Karen King translated a scrap of papyrus claiming Jesus had a wife named Mary, who would be a disciple amongst the 12 (known) Apostles.
*The Space Shuttle Endeavour is now on permanent display at the California Science Center in Los Angeles, California, USA.

IN UNITED STATES POLITICS:
*Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has released his 2011 tax returns and a SUMMARY of his past filings through 2000, claiming an annual payment of 14.1% in federal taxes. Meanwhile, a statement made at a fundraiser revealed Romney believes 47% of America's citizens think they are "entitled" to such social programs like health care, unemployment, well fare, social security, etc;  and is not worried about nor would he represent them if elected.
*According to a September 19, 2012 New York Times report: Congressional Senate Republicans have blocked a measure that would have provided $1 billion (US dollars) over five years in aid to veterans who have honorably severed their country over the last decade in their search for new employment. The report went on to say this was part of the Republican agenda to stop President Obama's legislative goals at any opportunity, which isn't surprising since those same Congressional Republicans have voted 33 times in an attempt to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Reform Act (aka "Obama Care") and have not once voted on a potential jobs bill!
*But despite having much work unfinished or even addressed, Congress has now adjourned until after the November elections, since many of its members are up for reelection and need to campaign.

IN SPORTS:
*The National Hockey League is officially in lock out mode after failing to reach a new agreement with its players. When or if the 2012-2013 season will begin remains to be seen.
*The National Football League is now using replacement referees after failing to reach a new agreement with the original crews, leaving many fans wondering about some of the calls and decisions in recent games.

THE FREE CHOICE E-ZINE OFFICIALLY ENDORSES PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!

First we asked our readers whether or not the Free Choice E-zine should endorse a Presidential candidate in 2012, or maintain our journalistic integrity and remain neutral.
The results of that readers' survey were a resounding 21-0 in favor of this e-zine endorsing a candidate, because this election was too important to sit out on the sidelines.
But despite the fact that 17 people also included an opinion as to which candidate, we played fair and ran a second readers' survey to officially determine who to support.
Out of the 19 people who expressed an opinion in that survey which ended September 16, ALL said this e-zine should support incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama!
For the record, out of the seventeen who expressed an opinion during the first survey, the final tally was 15-2 in favor of President Obama.

Therefore, we are bowing to the will of our readership and The Free Choice E-zine officially endorses incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama for reelection to the highest office within the United States of America.

We guess it's obvious who the better candidate is, especially in light of recent events where Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said that he isn't worried or cares about the 47% of American citizens who think they're "entitled" to such social programs like well fare, unemployment, health care, etc.

After all living on Earth might be expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year, so it's just a question of how you look at things.
Ready?

Take time to stop and smell the roses, but be careful of the thorns and the bees.

A minute may only be sixty seconds, but it seems longer if you're on the wrong side of an occupied bathroom.

Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live!

Happiness can come through doors you didn't even know you left open. After all, why do you think opportunity has to knock before entering?

Have you ever noticed that the people who are late are usually happier than the people who were waiting for them?

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

If your local store is lowering prices everyday, just wait until everything is free to do your shopping.

You may think you're the only person in the world, but you may also be the whole world to that one special person.

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened!

Some mistakes are just too much fun to make only once.

And did you know you can learn a lot from a simple box of crayons? Some are sharp. Some are pretty. Some are dull. Some may have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all exist very nicely in the same box!
Now if only we could apply the crayon example to the whole world...

*Protests have been held at various United States embassies around the Middle East after "The Innocence of Muslims" was released on YouTube September 11, 2012. However many Muslims consider the project blasphemous because it is critical of Islam.
*An attack upon the United States Embassy in Libya has resulted in four deaths, including the US Ambassador. US President Obama has condemned the event, Libyan President Mohamed Magariaf has vowed to bring the "cowardly attackers" to justice, and US Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has used the situation to attack Obama's foreign policies while never stating any sympathy for the victims or their families.
*Encouraged by the Libyan situation, protests have been held at other United States embassies around the Middle East.
*The People's Republic of China, Taiwan, and the Republic of China are in the midst of a new territorial dispute over the Senkaku Islands.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2012

FOREVER STRONG!

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EDITORIAL.

Like Pearl Harbor or Tienanmen Square, the events of September Eleventh will forever be in historical infamy.

Upon that day in 2001, the most insidious, unprovoked attack one group of human beings could initiate against another took place. Although occurring only within the national boundaries of just one country, it forever altered the countenance and politics of the entire world. A tragic event whose ramifications are still being felt and dealt with even now.

Upon the latest anniversary of that event, a lot will be discussed and rehashed within the various media outlets around the globe.

It is a given that we should remember our losses. The structures that were destroyed are slowly but surely being rebuilt. The memorial and museum will be open soon. The new Towers 1 and 4 should be ready for occupancy by this time next year; with Towers 2 and 3, as well as a new transportation hub, scheduled for completion in 2015.

But the lives unnecessarily extinguished between the initial attacks and latter events, as well as the brave men and women who gave up theirs while trying to assist the fallen can never be replaced. THOSE RESPONSIBLE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR NOT EXTENDING HEALTH COVERAGE TO THOSE COURAGEOUS PEOPLE! OTHERWISE, FIRST RESPONDER DEATHS FROM POST 9-11 COMPLICATIONS COULD BE LOWER!

Yet the biggest loss of all was of our innocence. This comes not from knowing that there are still those out there who hate just because others are different than themselves, but from discovering that they will stop at nothing when dealing with those that do not agree with their viewpoints on how the world should be. Osama Bin Laden might have been caught and duly executed for numerous war crimes against humanity, but sadly there are others fanatic enough who want to follow in his footsteps.

On this day, let us take a moment to pause and remember those who are no longer with us.

But when that moment is over, let us continue to do what we have been since September 12, 2001:

MOVING FORWARD towards a future where we remain vigilant, yet such inhumane acts become only a faint remnant of a distant nightmare.

It was theorized that the Rachel was swept out to sea and sank, but no one ever found the remains until now.

Dear Free Choice E-zine Readers:

Over the last few weeks, since we are based here in the United States, this E-zine requested your opinion as to whether or not we should support/endorse a Presidential candidate within the upcoming November elections.

The response has been an overwhelming yes!

Our best guess on the results is that the 2012 Presidential election is too important for anyone to stay neutral on the subject.

But now the question remains: WHO to support?

Despite the fact that several of the e-mails voting yes also included your suggestion as to who, we are keeping our promise of conducting a separate survey to determine this.

YET THE SURVEY PERIOD FOR THIS DECISION IS MUCH SHORTER THAN THE PREVIOUS SURVEY!

SUNDAY FUNNIES: SEPTEMBER 2, 2012: LABOR DAY

"Lord have mercy, on the working man!"

Hello Everybody! Your Editor-In-Chief Lee Houston, Junior here today because both Autumn the Puppy and Ms. Waxy Dragon have the Labor Day weekend off.
Labor Day is an officially recognized holiday here in the United States of America to honor those who helped build this country and its infrastructure. Ironically, a lot of us have to work tomorrow because our employer's businesses are open while they have jetted off to parts unknown to enjoy the three day weekend, but anyway...
I have had a long and varied job history.

My Dad wanted me to be an architect, but I just didn't have any foundation to justify pursuing that career.
My Mom wanted me to be a doctor, but I just didn't have the patience.
I thought about being an optometrist, but my folks and I couldn't see eye to eye on that, so my very first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned after the trial period. I just couldn't concentrate on my work. Guess I just got squeezed out.
Then I had a brief stint as a lumberjack. No, not the one from the infamous Monty Python song, but a real life tree cutter. In the end, I just couldn't hack it so my boss gave me the axe.
Afterwards I tried being a tailor, but found my talents weren't suited for the job. My meager skills were just sew-sew at best.
Then I tried being a hair stylist, but I just couldn't cut it.
I tried working for a company that made vehicle mufflers, but the work was just too exhausting.
Next I tried being a chef to attempt adding a little spice in my life, but I worked so many odd hours that I found myself without any thyme for me.
I think my best gig was as a musician, but I never worked on anything note worthy.
Next was working in the shoe factory, but I just didn't fit in.
I eventually managed to get a good job working for a pool company, and for a while things went swimmingly, but the work was just too draining in the long run.
I tried my hand at being a historian, but there really wasn't any future in it.
My last job was working at a coffee shop. But while my employer was trying to find grounds to let me go, I quit because it was just the same old grind.
So now I'm trying my hand at retirement and have discovered that I'm perfect for the job!

*What used to be known as "The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon", lasting from Sunday night to Monday evening, will now be know as "The MDA Show of Strength" and only air in the prime time period this Sunday night.
*Congratulations to Besse Cooper of Georgia, USA for celebrating her 116th birthday! The milestone event has been confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records.
*This month marks the 55th anniversary of the Ford Motor Company introducing the Edsel to automobile buyers in 1957.
*This is the last weekend to participate in The Free Choice E-zine's Readers Survey to determine whether or not this E-zine will support a Presidential candidate this fall or maintain journalistic integrity and remain neutral. *Hurricane Isaac, following roughly the same path of its predecessor Katrina, hit New Orleans, Louisiana USA earlier this week. Although not as strong as the 2005 storm, residents along the Gulf Coast experienced flooding, power outages, and severe property damage in some areas, with 36 persumed deaths. While there has yet to be an estimated time table of completion, relief and restoration efforts have begun.
*Colin and Vanessa Steer of England have discovered a well under their house that may date back to medieval times.
*Civil unrest continues in Syria.
*The assassination of Kenyan Islamic cleric Aboud Rogo Mohammed has triggered numerous protests and clashes in Mombasa.

THE 2012 REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION
*A couple of delegates are facing charges after throwing peanuts at an African American CNN camera woman, saying "This is how we feed the animals!"
*Paul Ryan's acceptance speech to be Mitt Romney's Vice President was fact checked by independent sources and found to be full of lies.
*In his acceptance speech to be the Republican Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney mentioned what he would do as America's Commander-In-Chief, but never once mentioned the actual troops!
*In what was supposed to be a speech endorsing Romney, Clint Eastwood talked to an empty chair that was supposed to represent incumbent Democrat President Barack Obama,. The staging has since become a set up for comedic comments since Eastwood "rambled" during his presentation, leaving Republicans in attendance scratching their heads wondering if he is for or against Romney.
*In an example of poor planning, the Republican Party hung a tote board with a running total of the National debt over a sign with their party's campaign slogan!

*Tonight is the middle night of a blue moon weekend. A blue moon is an extra full moon visible within a calendar year, with the next not occurring until July, 2015.
*Neil Armstrong, the first Human to set foot on the moon, was laid to rest yesterday in a private ceremony.

IN SPORTS:
*Despite the sanctions and scandal surrounding the university, Penn State football fans rallied around the team as they play their first game of the 2012 college football season. Meanwhile, others have picketed the game, wondering why Penn State is even allowed to still maintain a football program after everything that happened.
*The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games have begun in London, England.
*15 year old Lydia Ko of New Zealand has won the Canadian Women's Open, making her the youngest winner in LPGA history.
