THE PUZZLE CORNER: AUGUST 10, 2019

😎FUN FACT
Although advertised otherwise, technically the original Woodstock Music Festival actually lasted August 15-18, 1969. The music during three days of peace and love went past midnight each evening.

Two major anniversaries are coming up, so let’s honor both.

FAMOUS FIRSTS🥇
Who was the first act to perform at Woodstock 50 years ago?

TRIVIA TIME⌚
Cousins Fredric Danay and Manfred B. Lee combined their talents to create the Ellery Queen mysteries📚, which celebrate their 80th anniversary this year. But what other famous mystery series did they write under a different pseudonym?

We’ll reveal all next weekend, but for now, let’s open up THE ANSWERS BOX and discover the results from the August 3, 2019 Puzzle Corner.

FAMOUS FIRSTS🥇
What originally fictional game was the first to become an actual sport?
Many people believed it to be Quidditch from the Harry Potter books and movies, but it is actually Pooh Sticks from the Winnie the Pooh series.

THE 50/50 CHANCE
Just like a regular TRIVIA TIME question, except there are just two possible answers, hence the even odds of getting it right. Ready?

Which is the older game: checkers or chess?
CHECKERS! Under its original name draughts.

LET'S HAVE OUR OWN WOODSTOCK AT 50 CELEBRATION!

The following is an editorial.

As reported in yesterday's THE WEEK IN REVIEW, for whatever reason(s), there appears to be no official celebration honoring the upcoming 50th anniversary of the historic Woodstock Music Festival. 😢

We at The Free Choice E-zine think this is a (censored) shame!

Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to attempt such a major undertaking on our own.
This humble E-zine operates on a shoe string budget as it is, when we can afford the laces. 😉

But that doesn't mean we are powerless.

WE URGE EVERYBODY THAT WAS THERE BETWEEN AUGUST 15-18, 1969; (since events of the last day went past midnight) whether you were a performer, roadie, concert goer, vendor, or whatever TO HOP ON SOCIAL MEDIA AUGUST 15, 2019 & SHARE YOUR MEMORIES WITH THE WORLD!

Personally, I was only 7 and nowhere near New York State at the time, but love the music of the 1960s.
By all accounts it was a magical time, the likes of which will probably never be seen again.
Human beings set foot on the moon that same year, so why can't this be remembered too?

Tweet, Instagram, Facebook, blog, or whatever.
Just share and relive the moment with others.
That isn't too much to ask, is it?

"MOSCOW MITCH"?

The following is an editorial.

There is a lot of legitimate concern within the United States of America about whether or not a foreign entity hacked and/or exercised outside influence upon the 2016 US Presidential election.
It also stands to reason that if any of the above actually did happen, then is the upcoming 2020 US Presidential election secure?

For whatever reason(s) Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has yet to allow any bills through his side of Congress that would address the issue.
This has led to some wondering about his "true allegiance", which has caused the Twitter hashtag #MoscowMitch to become popular.

Senator McConnell is not happy about the new nickname, but it seems obvious to The Free Choice E-zine that the quickest solution to the problem would be to prove his detractors wrong by doing everything humanly possible to secure the upcoming elections.
Other than the fact that Congress is now in recess until after Labor Day 2019, why Senator McConnell has yet to do so officially remains unknown.

The Free Choice E-zine unfortunately does not have the answer(s), but inquiring minds and this country need to know!

SUNDAY FUNNIES: CLEANING UP (misc. jokes)

Hello Everybody! Waxy Dragon here!
Mean ol' Bubblehead, the human I live with, is making me clean my room.
What does it matter to him whether or not my room is clean?
After all, I live in it, not him. He has his own room.
I guess it didn't help when he called my room a pig sty. That was when I reminded him yet again that I am a baby companion dragon, and if he wanted to see a pig sty, he should look at his own room.
Waxy's impression of her guardian Bubblehead.

So...
Here I am cleaning my room. Finding a lot of jokes I've yet to tell, so I'll share some of them with you now. Ready?

Where do Beach kings live?
In Sand Castles.

Do Snap, Crackle, and Pop have Twitter accounts?  I could go for some Rice Crispy Tweets.

Are women building a house called Carpenter Aunts?

The knight’s cellphone battery was low, so he rode into battle on his charger.

The Joke File
What kind of car is made of wood?
A Lumberghini.

I'm not lazy. It's just that my recliner and I go way back.

Bubblehead might be having me clean my room, but it's time for him to clean the fridge.
I just went to get a drink and something in there closed the door, complaining I was disturbing its nap!

And on that note🎵...
Have a great week everybody, and please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!—wd.

SUNDAY FUNNIES: CLASSIC CELEBRITY CITINGS

"Bark!" And you can quote me on that.
Hello Everybody! Autumn the Puppy here!
It's been quite a while since the last time I've posted any funny celebrity quotes. Not that celebrities don't say anything funny, whether intentionally or not, just that I haven't used any of their material in a while.
So without further adieu, and my comments are in italics.

"I had a rose🌹 named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalog: 'No good in a bed, but fine against a wall.'" - Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady to President Franklin Roosevelt.
Maybe you should have pointed out the thorns to whoever wrote that description.

"Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint." - Mark Twain, famous author.
So they had fad diets even way back then huh? It's a lot trickier today with the Internet!

"By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher." - Socrates, Greek philosopher.
Is that how you got into the business sir?

"I have never hated a man enough to give his diamonds🔷⃟🔶 back." - Zsa Zsa Gabor, actress.
People should marry for love, but it doesn't hurt to have something to cover the expenses of old age.

"My luck is so bad that if I bought a cemetery, people would stop dying." - Rodney Dangerfield, famous comedian.
That doesn't necessarily sound like a bad thing. Think of the all the innocent victims of violence that wouldn't be leaving before their natural end.

"Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery." - Spike Milligan, comedian/writer.
At least it keeps the bills paid, food on the table and a roof over your head. That sounds like happiness to me.
Bob Hope

"I don't feel old. I don't feel anything until noon. Then it's time for my nap." - Bob Hope, comic actor.
You should see some of the cats🐈🐱 I have to share this house with Mr. Hope. I don't think any of them have moved in weeks. But let me try to catch 40 winks after barking at the mailman📧📪...

"I never drink water because of the disgusting things that fish🐟🐠 do in it." - W. C. Fields, comedian.
Humans pollute the water a lot more than fish do, sir.

Churchill
"We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work its way through Congress." - Will Rogers, comedic actor.
If red tape existed back then, George Washington would still be waiting for supplies to get to Valley Forge!

"Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you." - Winston Churchill,
England's Prime Minister during World War 2.
Life's for living! Have fun when you can responsibly.

And on that note🎵, have a great week everybody and please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!—AtP.
