THE WEEK IN REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 28-OCTOBER 4, 2014

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!

AMONGST EVENTS HAPPENING AROUND THE WORLD THIS PAST WEEK...
*As military action against them continues, ISIL forces swear they will retaliate against all nations participating, and have already released more video taped executions.
*Ashraf Ghani has been sworn in as the new President of Afghanistan.
*Despite saying there would be no censorship, the Egyptian government seized a day's print run of the Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper to "correct" an article.
*The death toll from the West African Ebola Virus outbreak has sadly broken the 3000+ victims mark, with at least one patient in another country, as a man is being treated in Dallas, Texas, USA without much improvement in his current health.
*The Mount Ontake volcano has erupted, claiming at least 45 lives.
*The Occupy Central (with Love and Peace) movement continues in Hong Kong to protest electoral changes ordered by the Chinese government.
*Pluto has been declared a planet again!
*Team Europe won the 2014 Ryder Cup.

FROM THE UKRAINE...
*Fighting continues into its third week between the Ukrainian military and pro-Russian separatist forces in and around the Donetsk International Airport, despite a ceasefire agreement between the Ukraine and Russia.

WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...
*Ironically, Charles and David Koch, known more commonly in Republican political circles as the Koch Brothers, do not question the facts within a recent Rolling Stone magazine expose about them (issue 1219, dated October 9, 2014). But they have questioned why reporter Tom Dickinson was allowed to write such a "negative" article, and why Rolling Stone would even authorize such an expose, let alone publish it so close to the November 2014 midterm elections.
*Meanwhile, Americans For Prosperity, a Koch sponsored cause, has been accused of sending out thousands of fake voter registration forms in North Carolina.
*An Ebola Virus patient is now being treated in a Dallas, Texas area hospital, causing local concern.
*Julia Pierson has resigned as Director of the United States Secret Service following the three break in attempts at the White House.
*Hospitalized after being beaten by bullies, the victim: a gay teenager in Henrico, Virgina; has been the only person arrested on assault charges!
*After noting a serious decline in bee populations, scientists are now concerned that insecticides are also killing birds, as flocks greatly decline in numbers within Midwestern states.
*Pacific walruses unable to find sea ice to rest on are coming onto the northwest Alaskan shoreline in record numbers.
*The U.S.S. Enterprise, the Navy's oldest nuclear powered aircraft carrier, has been retired.
*Nike will be "remastering" its Michael Jordan line of sneakers to address issues of quality versus price.
*The National Football League will begin testing players on Monday for illegal Human Growth Hormones (HGHs) as part of a new drug policy worked out with the players union.

The Free Choice E-zine received 4,398 page views during September 2014, making this only the third time in our Blogger history (after March and July of this year) to record such an achievement.
As mentioned before, all our previous records and archives were lost when our last server suddenly went bankrupt and closed shop, necessitating the move to Blogger.
