SUNDAY FUNNIES: LOOKING (HOPEFULLY) AHEAD

HELLO EVERYBODY! Autumn the Puppy here enjoying the first official weekend of my namesake.
Thankfully it's still warm enough right now so my people are running around in shorts and T-shirts and I'm enjoying a nice warm sunny spot as I post this.
The leaves๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚ are beginning to turn all kinds of interesting colors.
Of course some people complain about having to rake them all up after they fall, but it's just part of the natural cycle of life.
I do hope everyone is composting (where applicable), but it's nice to know that despite all the problems that this world has faced so far this year, some things still remain the same.

Looking ahead, soon it will be Halloween.๐ŸŽƒ
And we even have a (blue) full moon๐ŸŒ• on October 31!
I definitely intend to do some howling at it, weather permitting of course.
Yet with the pandemic still a major problem, how will the kiddies safely Trick or Treat this year?๐Ÿ‘ป

Then comes Thanksgiving, although everyone can make their own jokes about the current crop of political turkeys๐Ÿฆƒ๐Ÿฆƒ that will hopefully be lame ducks๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ† by the end of that month.
Of course in politics it's not whether you win or lose but how you place the blame.

After that is Christmas๐ŸŽ„, which will certainly be an interesting season this year.
"Honey, I got you the new PPE set you wanted for Christmas."
"Oh dearest, you really do love me!"๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’‘

And then, what will 2021 bring besides a hangover for a lot of people January 1?
After all, a fool and his money can throw one heck of a party!๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅณ

Anyway, time⌛ will tell.
Signs of the times. ๐Ÿ˜‰

But right now it's time for me to tell some jokes! Ready?

If quitters never win and winners never quit, what fool came up with, "Quit while you're ahead?"

I believe for every drop of rain⛆☔ that falls, a flower grows.
And a foundation leaks and a ball game gets rained out and a car rusts and...

WATCH THIS SPACE!

Did it do anything?
Oh well. Maybe next time.๐Ÿ˜‰

Have you've noticed the increase in ads for medicines lately?
If 4 out of 5 people suffer from something and need the product being sold, does that mean the fifth person enjoys whatever problem they have?

You may be addicted to your smart phone๐Ÿ“ฑ if you’ve spent more on its accessories than what the phone itself cost.

Have you ever wondered if people at tea factories take coffee breaks?

And on that note♫, have a great week.
STAY SAFE!๐Ÿ˜ท
And please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!AtP.

REPLACING RUTH (An editorial)

 The following is an editorial.

There is no denying how remarkable Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933-2020) was both on and off a judicial bench. She was a great woman who will be sorely missed.
Yet while no one will ever be able to replace the person, her absence has created a now highly contested vacancy upon the Supreme Court.
Let's look at the facts.

FACT ONE
Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution, known as the Appointments Clause, does empower the president of this country to nominate and, with the confirmation (advice and consent) of the Senate, to appoint public officials, including justices of the Supreme Court.

FACT TWO
Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats can seem to agree on when this should be done, let alone by who.

CASE IN POINT...
When Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away in 2016, then President Barack Obama was prepared to nominate a replacement under that article of law.
HOWEVER....
Mitch McConnell, leading a Republican majority in the Senate, said the "next" President of the United States should have the authority and honor of doing so, despite the fact that we were then still months away from the November 2016 election, let alone the end of Obama's last term of office in January 2017.
This is how "President" Donald Trump got Neil Gorsuch on the bench to replace Scalia.

TODAY...
How Justice Should Be
Citing the same Article in FACT ONE, McConnell, Trump, and other Republicans are rushing to fill Ginsburg's position, despite the fact that her funeral isn't even officially being held until the end of September!
MEANWHILE...
The Democrats are saying that, to honor Ginsburg's dying wish, the potential nominee shouldn't even be named until after whoever wins the November 3 election (Trump or fellow Democrat Joe Biden) is sworn in next January.

YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS FOLKS!

Granted Obama was unjustly cheated, even to the point of the Republicans breaking the law by keeping him from officially naming an appointee, let alone the Senate refused to even consider his potential candidate for the Supreme Court.

WHY ALL THE FUSS?
Even if Trump loses the November election and Joe Biden replaces him come January 2021, that would give the Republican Party potential influence over the Supreme Court and their decisions for years to come having 3 judges on the bench, counting Trump replacing Ginsburg.
Many Americans (including me) are deathly afraid of this happening, especially because within the coming months the Court is scheduled to hear cases concerning the Affordable Health Care Act (something that should NOT be messed with during a pandemic!), Roe versus Wade/women's rights, various Equality issues and scores of other topics whose judgements/decisions will affect this country for years, if not decades to come.
Depending upon the results, it might even come down to the Supreme Court having the final say in who wins the 2020 Presidential Election!
Akin to the George W. Bush versus Al Gore situation of 2000.

SO WHAT'S THE ANSWER?
Fear of how Justice would be pro-Republicans

THE POLITE SOLUTION would be to at least wait until after Ginsburg's funeral and a respectable mourning period ends before starting the entire debate, but it's too late for that.

THE FAIREST SOLUTION would be for the Republicans to admit they were wrong (as if that will ever happen!) and let Obama have a "make up pick". I'd be all for this, especially if Obama chooses another lady to replace Ginsburg, which is the only thing Trump has said during all of this mess that I actually agree with.
Of course the Senate could turn around and repeat 2016 by not even considering Obama's "make up pick"/nominee, like they did in regards to Merrick Garland not replacing Scalia.

And obviously if Trump somehow manages to win re-election in November, with or without Russia's help as the CIA is currently investigating, all of the above would be for naught.

BUT THE ABSOLUTELY BEST SOLUTION would be to somehow keep politics completely out of all levels of the judicial system, yet I freely admit I have absolutely no idea how one could ever hope to accomplish such a major endeavor!

SUNDAY FUNNIES: CAT-ATUDE

Hello Everybody! Piper D. Katt here.
Thanks for all the kind words between my first solo appearance and my team up with Autumn the Puppy last week.
I got to tell you a little bit about myself in my debut, but now let's go more in depth.
I'm a lady, "owned" by a nice family of reliable pet ๐Ÿ˜ปlovers, so you can rest assured that all my needs and their responsibilities are well met.
As previously mentioned, I love to sing♫, but please don't call it caterwauling. That's just simply degrading to both of us.
I groom and nap on a regular basis, the sunnier๐ŸŒž the spot for the latter, the better.
And, as any other feline, I'm curious by nature. I'm always getting into things wanting to know what's going on, even though some people think I shouldn't be. Especially when it comes to meals on the dining room table.๐Ÿ˜บ
I also know how to properly use a litter box, and have my people well trained in its maintenance.
Then again, I think I deserve more than just an open tray in an unused corner of the bathroom. I wonder if I can talk my people into one of these fancier boxes? After all, a lady does need her privacy.

Cats walk with grace and style because we always work on our pawsture.
We don't just enter a room. We own it.

While there are felines in the jungle, us cats don't play cards with them because there are too many cheetahs.
Then again, we don't play Hide and Seek with the leopards๐Ÿ† either because they're too easily spotted.๐Ÿ˜‰
We also don't trust the King of Beasts because they're usually lion.๐Ÿฆ
Besides, who crowned๐Ÿ‘‘ them King to begin with?
You're cute, but wrong mouse kitten!
Not any cat I know!

Cats know better than to attempt attacking your computer mouse.
After all, they don't taste good no matter how much ketchup you put on them.
We would love to have Mice๐Ÿ๐Ÿญ Krispies for breakfast, but no one seems to know how to properly prepare it for us, so we settle for whatever comes out of the can or bag, despite the fact no one has yet to develop a decent mouse flavor in that either.
But we do like sitting on top of the monitors (and your televisions) because felines feel we should be the center of your attention.
No human has ever truly experienced rejection until they've been ignored by a cat.

If we ever get to go shopping, we prefer to do it by catalogue.
I can't speak for other felines, but my favorite color is purrrple.

Don't know about you, but us cats are also sick and tired about the weather joke concerning the rain.
It is NOT raining cats and dogs. Stop and think about that for a second. How would they get up in the clouds to begin with?
Besides, I've never heard a human complain about it hailing taxis.๐Ÿš•๐Ÿš•
And just like nature, cats abhor vacuums too!
Well, I think that's that for now.
There's a sunny๐ŸŒ… spot with my name on it waiting for me to take a quick cat nap in, so take care.
STAY SAFE! ๐Ÿ˜ทAnd please be back here next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!PDK.

SUNDAY FUNNIES: SCHOOL DAZE 2020

Autumn
Hello Everybody! Autumn the Puppy here! Today...
Wait a second. Where's my co-host?

Here I am.

Piper
Who are you?

Piper D. Katt. It's a pleasure to meet you Autumn. Sorry I'm late, but I got here as fast as I could after they called me in. I was originally hired to be the new weekend holiday hostess but apparently I've been promoted.

I see. I wondered why she missed rehearsal earlier this week. So what happened to—

Don't know. I hope wherever she is she's okay, but otherwise you're guess is as good as mine.
Anyway folks, as Autumn was about to say, today we're presenting the Sunday Funnies' annual salute to school!

That's right... err- Piper.
This year has been a rough haul for all of us, but most especially the children.
Yet whether virtually or traditionally, everyone needs not only a good education, but a chance to kick back and relax as well.

So today we're doing both. Starting with...

Did you know 4 out of 3 people struggle with fractions?

There is a fine line between the numerator / and the denominator and only a fraction of the people who read this will find it funny.

Why do some kids think that their parents are so old that when they were in school, history was called current events?

Why did the student climb the tree๐ŸŒฒ with his text books?
He wanted to get a higher education.

What’s the tallest building around?
Any library, because it has the most stories.๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“•๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ“—๐Ÿ“˜๐Ÿ“™๐Ÿ•ฎ๐Ÿ“š

Having a pencil✎ with two erasers is pointless.

The Science Teacher couldn't understand why everyone started laughing when she said, “Uranus is one of the gas giants...”

If you ever experience Sphenopalatineganglioneuralgia, don't panic! It's just a headache from eating too much ice cream. ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿจ Then again, I'm not sure it's safe for pets to have ice cream to begin with.
Experience it? I'm not sure I can even spell it!

In any event, this has been an interesting experience and it was a pleasure to work with you.
Likewise. Anyway, hope everyone has a great week. STAY SAFE!๐Ÿ˜ท
And please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!AtP and PDK.
