HUGH MONN, PRIVATE DETECTIVE: FEMME FATALE NOW AVAILABLE!

Although I am proud to serve as Editor-In-Chief of The Free Choice E-zine, I am also an author in my own right, so I hope you kind folks don't mind a bit of self promotion.

๐Ÿ˜€THE WAIT IS OVER!๐Ÿ˜€

Cover art by Larry Nadolsky
The third book (and second full length novel) in my HUGH MONN, PRIVATE DETECTIVE series has been released in both print and Kindle formats by Pro Se Press on Amazon!

The private detective of the far flung future is back in a brand new adventure that hits a little too close to home when his girlfriend's apartment is ransacked and her roommate goes missing!
But is the lady on the lam from the villain(s) or the authorities?

From Pro Se's press release...
NEW PULP’S FAVORITE RETRO FUTURISTIC GUMSHOE IS BACK!
Author Lee Houston, Jr. returns to the glistening and grimy streets of science fiction mystery with his own futuristic shamus.

“In the early days of Pro Se,” says Editor in Chief Tommy Hancock, “not only was Lee Houston, Jr. one of our first authors, he also introduced one of the characters that people still ask about. Taking everything a fan of 1950s type detectives would enjoy and wrapping it up in the glittery, galaxy studded package of the future, HUGH MONN, PRIVATE DETECTIVE shows the impact of Pulp as a style and what a dedicated writer like Lee can do with it. FEMME FATALE is a long awaited addition to this fantastic series.”

Even in the future, love and lust can get a Private Eye killed.
Hugh Monn finds his latest case strikes too close to home when his girlfriend's apartment is trashed and her roommate goes missing. But is the lady on the run from the villain(s) or the authorities?
As Hugh fights to find both the truth and the woman, he trips across a few old favorites of any galactic gumshoe: thieves, a blackmail scheme, and murder.
But the lines between love and hate, life and crime, victim and Femme Fatale get blurred as they tangle about Hugh’s proverbial neck!

Featuring an atmospheric cover by Larry Nadolsky, main title design by Sean Ali, and formatting by Carol Morris, HUGH MONN, PRIVATE DETECTIVE VOLUME THREE: FEMME FATALE is available in print for $9.99 or the Kindle for only $2.99.
The book is also available to Kindle Unlimited members for free.

Hope you like the book everybody!—lh,jr.

SUNDAY FUNNIES: WINGING IT

♫Flying away on a wing and a prayer♫
Hello Everybody! Waxy Dragon here!

Well, we're still in a bit of a quandary here, uncertain whether to run our annual Groundhog Day satire or our humorous salute to "the big game" ๐Ÿˆ because both the holiday and the last football game of the season, which everyone claims will be really "super" ๐Ÿ˜ are scheduled for February 2, which is our next Sunday Funnies.

But that just leaves little ol' me here to wing it for today, so...

Are people prone to violent tendencies?
A waiter asked a patron if he wanted a box for his leftovers.
The man replied, "No, but I'll arm wrestle you for them."

I've heard that approximately 95% of all ocean critters are allegedly still undiscovered.
If this is true, the ocean can certainly keep its Sea Crits.
Well read?

The patient admitted, “I’m addicted to collecting magazines.”
The therapist replied, “It sounds like you have issues.
"There's so many, I have volumes!" confessed the patient.

How did the librarian retrieve her lost copy of Moby Dick?
She used a bookworm.๐Ÿ˜‰

Who is constantly a fowl of the law?
A stool pigeon!

I'm glad I don't work for some big corporation.
"We are going to keep holding meetings until we can figure out why we aren’t getting any work done," the executive told his employees.
I think I already know what the problem is!

I'm not sure whether this is smart or dumb.
A teacher asked a student how to spell orange.
The student wanted to know if the teacher was asking about the fruit๐ŸŸ  or the color.

And on that note♫, have a great week everybody and please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies and the answer to our Groundhog's Day versus "the big game" dilemma!wd.

DOCTOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR DAY, 2020

The following is an editorial.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Since practically the dawn of time there alas have been those among us who seek to belittle, categorize, and even segregate their fellow human beings regarding race, creed, skin color, wealth or the lack thereof, our various personal preferences, and other aspects real or imagined.

Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or the darkness of destructive selfishness.

While peace, understanding, co-existence, harmony, and the other forces of good have been triumphant over the centuries, it amazes me that such narrow minded viewpoints still persist to this day.

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

We are one race upon a singular planet within the vastness of the universe.
Regardless of who you are, we must all work together for not only the betterment of this world, but ourselves and our civilization today and the generations to come.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

All the words in blue are quotes from the late Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior, a man assassinated because he dared to believe in peace and nonviolent resolutions to the problems that face us all.

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.

We honor the dreamer today and strive to carry on until his dream fully becomes reality from now until long after anyone reading these words is only with us in spirit.

The above was an editorial.

SUNDAY FUNNIES: FUR FITNESS

Hello Everybody! Autumn the Puppy here!
Now technically it should be Waxy Dragon's turn in our hosting rotation, but she's still celebrating Dragon Appreciation Day.
Turns out that's a big Draconian๐Ÿฒ to do and a LONG holiday weekend for them, especially since it fell on a Thursday this year.
Waxy will be back next weekend, but we do have a bit of a scheduling dilemma ahead of us.

Sunday February 2 is both Groundhog Day AND when the 2020 edition of "the big football๐Ÿˆ game", since only licensed sponsors can call it by the event's official title, will be held.
So which classic routine do we do that day? The lady wanting to sue the groundhog for the inaccurate weather forecast or sports jokes, ending with Andy Griffith's famous routine "What it was, was football"?

Anyway, they say what goes around comes around, but don't you think "they" would get awfully tired and dizzy traveling in circles so much?
Yet Humans never cease to amaze me.
It's the start of a new year so once again everyone tries, or at least promises they're going to get into shape.

One of my owners bought some strength building tablets, guaranteed to build muscle in a very short time.
Unfortunately he can't get the cap off the bottle, and it isn't even child proof!

He then joined a gym, but the next time he tried to go there, my man couldn't find his membership card.
A replacement/new one was $10. A donut and coffee at the nearby shop were $3.
Guess who saved $7?

What is it with roosters?๐Ÿ“
Just because they see the sunrise,๐ŸŒ… they think they've got to crow and shout about it, waking everyone else up in the process.
Hey bird! Just because you're up at the crack of dawn doesn't mean I have to be.
Then again, why everyone complains when I howl at the full moon...๐ŸŒ•

And on that note♫, have a great week everybody and please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!—AtP.

DRAGON APPRECIATION DAY 2020!

So excited!

Hello Everybody! Waxy Dragon here!
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!
After all these years...
After all the bad imagery and negative press we've had to overcome.

๐Ÿ˜€DRAGON ๐Ÿ‰ APPRECIATION DAY!๐Ÿ˜€

WOW!

You know, not every dragon has ever believed that Humans are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
The fact that in Medieval Times, some thought dragons only ate "canned" food (all those armored soldiers) that they would rather kill us than get to know us better first.
Well, it just goes to show you that prejudices and stereotypes CAN be overcome!

Dragon Society has been lobbying day and knight for centuries to establish peace in our time between humans and dragons, but we never expected this!

Okay, dragons are sometimes still portrayed as the villain(s) in fantasy works, but to have a whole day in honor of us?

My faith in human kindness knows no bounds!

Now if all of you could only treat yourselves and each other better...
But one step at a time.

SUNDAY FUNNIES: FUR THOUGHTS

Hello Everybody! Autumn the Puppy here!
WOW! It's 2020!
Where has the time gone?
I haven't even finished burying all of 2019's bones yet.
And before anyone goes looking for double meanings or hidden messages in that last sentence remember: I AM A DOG!๐Ÿถ

Anyway, moving right along...
It's joke time!

I don't use auto-correct all of the time, but when I due... ๐Ÿ˜‰

Upon realizing how poorly he played his first game, the new golfer๐ŸŒ said about improving his
performance, "I have a fairway to go."

Becoming an optometrist and learning how to prescribe eye wear must be a fine art.
After all, you don't want to make a spectacle of yourself.

How do locomotives๐Ÿš‚ know where they are to go?
Training.

As hunters, trains are good at following tracks. ๐Ÿ›ค

Logic will get you from A to Z, but Imagination will take you everywhere.

It's not always easy being a dog.
Sometimes you just have to roll down your car window, smell the breeze as your owner drives because they won't let you do so despite being licensed, and bark at people you pass to brag about everything you've already smelled.

And on that note♫, have a great week everybody and please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!—AtP.

THE PUZZLE CORNER: JANUARY 11, 2020

๐Ÿ˜ŽFUN FACT
Red blood cells are produced in/by bone marrow.

RHYME TIME⌛
The clue to something is below, but no matter how long your answer is, each word within it must rhyme. Ready?
A woman’s possible answer to the question: “Are you pregnant?”

NUMBER PLEASE
Get ready! We ask the question, but the answer is just a number.
How many sweat glands can you find in one square inch of human skin?

We’ll reveal all next weekend but for now, let’s open up THE ANSWERS BOX๐Ÿ“ฆ and discover the results from the January 4, 2020 Puzzle Corner.

THE LETTER SHUFFLE
How many new words can you form out of the letters in NEW YEAR?
A, an, any, are, aye
Ear, earn, ewe, eye
Nay, nee, near
Ran, raw, ray, renew
War, ware, warn, way, wean, wear, weary, were, wren
Yarn, yaw, yawn, yea, yearn
New and Year don’t count because they were part of the original phrase. Other words than the 30 listed above might be possible.

COMMON BONDS
The items in each subset below have something in common. Do you know what it is?
01. {♫Tracy♫ by The Cuff Links, ♫Sugar Sugar♫ by The Archies}
Both were actually performed by singer Ron Dante. Being one hit wonders does NOT qualify because ♫Sugar Sugar♫ was actually the third of five releases for The Archies with ♫Jingle Jangle♫ also a Top 10 hit for them.
02. {Strawberry Alarm Clock, Lynyrd Skynyrd} = singer/songwriter/guitarist Ed King was a member of both groups.
Don't feel too bad if you couldn't correctly answer the last one, for a lot of people were thrown off by the items in that subset.
