The following is an editorial.
increasingly misnamed "Black Friday".
The practice began when retail stores opened well before dawn the day after Thanksgiving to start Christmas sales early, but it has been seriously extended over the years to begin up to at least the week before the actual holiday in November, if not earlier.
The staff and management of The Free Choice E-zine has no problem with any business making an honest income, but does wonder if perhaps this event needs to be reorganized since it has far outgrown its original intentions and time frame.
In any event, may we present our annual ode to Black Friday...
SOME DARE BRAVE THE GLOOM OF BLACKEST NIGHT,
QUESTING FOR BARGAINS UPON THEIR TREK,
TO HIT EVERY SALE BEFORE DAYLIGHT.
ME? I PLANNED WELL AHEAD.
NO NERVES, CREDIT, OR CAR SUFFERED WRECK.
JUST RESTFUL SLUMBER WITHIN MY OWN BED.
