SUNDAY FUNNIES: OF WOMEN AND DAYLIGHT

I have a couple of different things to talk about today.

First off is the fact that today is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY.

While originated by Vladimir Lenin (of all people) in 1922, the United Nations has led the promotion since 1977 and it has become a recognized global holiday/event.

All I can say about that is IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Women do as much as, or in some cases more than men. Especially in regards to child raising.

I know I wasn't the easiest puppy to get along with growing up, or so my mother always claimed.

Women have earned and deserve their rights.

To say or do otherwise is totally wrong.

Please respect and honor women not just on March 8, but the rest of the year as well.

And if you think I would make any jokes at a lady's expense, you don't know me very well, do you?

Now then, today is also when we set the clocks ahead one hour as Daylight Saving Time begins.

All I can tell you is that I woke up this morning after a ruff night of guarding my people's house from all kinds of potential intruders, like that stray raccoon that keeps raiding our trash cans, and at first I thought I overslept because the clocks all said it was an hour later than when I usually get up for the day.

I'm sure that will go over good with any boss whose employees show up to work an hour later than usual.

Anyway, as I'm sure you can see by checking out the Wikipedia link above, Daylight Saving Time is a summer event throughout much of North America and Europe, as well as some places south of the Equator.

But in all honesty, what are we saving?

Who sets the sun🌞 an hour ahead?

That would be one heck of a trip to adjust that clock, and by the time you made it back to Earth🌍, it would be time to turn around to make the trip to reset it for winter!

And how do farmers set their roosters🐓🐓 ahead one hour to crow on time?

After all, they work on the sun's schedule too.

They crow at sunrise to wake everyone up and crow again at sunset that it's time for bed, although I personally don't know anyone who actually keeps that kind of schedule.

And as far as I know, we don't get any interest on our savings. All we receive at the end of the season is our original hour back.

What kind of a system is that?

Depending upon the clouds and the weather, the sun will always be there to begin with.

Then again, I'm not a human so maybe I'm not supposed to understand all of this to begin with.

Being a dog, my big schedule events are eat, sleep, bathroom, guard and play times.

I reluctantly agree to vet visits because staying healthy is important and I love taking car rides, but that vet HAS to find someone else to stick that thermometer when they want to check my temperature!

But now it's time for a few more quick time based jokes.

What time is it when the clock strikes 13?

Time to get a new clock.

How can you tell when a digital clock is broken?

After all, there's nothing on the display to say so.

Or is that your first clue?

Why is time always hungry?

Because it goes back for seconds.

Say it out loud and you'll get the joke.

I threw my clock out the window because I wanted to see time fly, but all it did was fall to the ground and break.

I certainly didn't have any fun doing that.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2021

 The following is an editorial.

Today is International Women's Day.

Out of all the various social groups in existence, women are at least one of, if not THE worst treated in all of history.

They've been belittled, their importance downplayed and regulated to little more than wife and homemaker in centuries past.

Even when they could finally, officially enter the job market (and those who think being a wife and/or homemaker are not work are seriously wrong!), they have been payed less for doing the same job as a male counterpart, who usually took credit for the lady's accomplishments and got the promotions long before she might have ever been considered a possibility.

While there have been some noticeable improvements since the 1970s, there is still a LONG way to go both here in the United States and around the world, especially to recover the ground lost during the 45th American "President's" administration and to overcome the stigma of some places where women are still considered nothing but a commodity to be bought, sold and used!

In any event, we at The Free Choice E-zine wish ALL women well.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2017

The following is an editorial.

Let's face it folks, even in these more "enlightened" times, the female of the species still gets the proverbial short end of the stick in many ways.

Less pay for at least the same amount of work as their male counterparts, accompanied with a higher degree of difficulty to break the legendary glass ceiling for promotions...

Attacks on their health and reproductive rights...

Even attacks on women in general out of total ignorance or the mistaken belief that they are the "inferior" gender...

IT HAS GOT TO STOP!

A woman's place is not just in the home cooking meals, raising the existing children while producing more.

There are famous women past and present (Malala Yousafzai, Ida B. Wells, Sally Ride, Ada Lovelace, etc;) but without more support from both their own gender and the male of the species, how strong and confident will the ladies of the future be?

There has been a serious, but very misguided mistake in many countries, INCLUDING the United States of America to "turn back the clock" to more simpler times with less women's rights, and it would take a lot more space than this simple editorial post to explain just how wrong that is!

But just like in many other causes, one person cannot do it alone.

PLEASE... take the time to not only treat the ladies in your life correctly, but to help educate and build confidence in our youth to show the girls of today that they are not "lesser" than anyone else, but that they can be the leaders and pioneers of the future as well!

Hello Everybody. Today you have both Waxy Dragon AND Autumn the Puppy, because it's International Women's Day!

That's right Waxy. Now, depending upon where you live, this celebration has been everything from a political message to an event honoring the ladies of the world. Yet there is no denying that women do make up a very important part of the world.

Right on Autumn! From Betsy Ross to Florence Nightingale, from Gilda Radner to Margaret Thatcher, there have been many famous women throughout history. Now why a lot of countries only pay women up to 78% of what their men earn is a mystery to me.

I wish I knew the answer to that one myself Waxy. Anyway, being women ourselves (sort of), we certainly aren't going to tell women themed jokes and belittle the celebration. So instead we're going to use one of my regular features and present some female based celebrity comments. Ready?

In a famous speech, Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior said he had a dream in which his children were judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Shouldn't the same criteria apply to gender as well?
