SUNDAY FUNNIES: FALLING FOR JOKES

Hello Everybody! Waxy Dragon here!
The Northern Hemisphere is now experiences Autumn, aka fall.
Now, fall is an interesting time of year. It's like Mother Nature ran out of green crayons and had to use up the other colors in the box before she could get more.
Personally, I love fall. I can fly and dash through the leaves, and being a warm blooded creature, the cold weather doesn't bother me. Winter still bothers me some, but I'll fly south later.
So meanwhile, here are some of my favorite fall jokes.

Why did Humpty Dumpty have a great fall?
To make up for a lousy summer!

What did the tree say to autumn?
Leaf me alone.
And if we're talking about Autumn the puppy, I don't think I can repeat the tree's reply here.

What did one leaf say to the other?
I'm falling for you!

Just think, if money did grow on trees, autumn would be the best season ever!

Autumn is when you drag all your winter clothes out of the closet and see what the moths were up to over the summer.

How come only leaves fall in autumn and prices don't?

Well, Douglas Adams once wrote that flying was just a question of not hitting the ground when you fall, but I guess the leaves never learned that lesson.

*Cambodia's Parliament has voted for Prime Minister Hun Sen to continue in office, despite a boycott attempt.
*United States President Barack Obama has revealed that he chatted with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, the first conversation since the Iranian Revolution.
*Civil unrest also continues in Iran, Bahraini, and Afghanistan.

CONCERNING SYRIA
*President Bashar al-Assad said he would allow outside inspection of chemical weapons plants.
*The United States and Russia have agreed on the draft of the United Nations' Security Council's resolution to rid Syria of its chemical weapons.
*Meanwhile, United Nations' investigators are looking into additional allegations of those weapons being used since the initial incident.



WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...

*REPUBLICANS ARE STILL THREATENING TO NOT PASS A BUDGET AND THUS SHUT DOWN THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT ON OCTOBER 1 UNLESS OBAMA CARE IS AT LEAST DEFUNDED, IF NOT TOTALLY ENDED!
*Oracle Team USA won the 2013 America's Cup sailing competition.

Of what historical significance is the Three Dog Night song Black and White?

The song was originally written by David I. Arkin and Earl Robinson in 1954 to celebrate the decision by the United States Supreme Court in Brown versus The Board of Education that outlawed the racial segregation of public schools. While Pete Seeger and Sammy Davis, Junior; as well as the groups The Maytones and Greyhound all recorded versions before them, it was Three Dog Night's rendition that proved the most successful (to date).

THE SHADOW LEGION: NEW ROADS TO HELL (BOOK REVIEW)

Hello Everybody.
Recently I had the honor of being Ric Croxton's guest co-host on episode 77 of his Ric's Comics podcast.
You can listen to that here, and the topic of discussion was The Shadow Legion: New Roads to Hellby Thomas Deja.
While the podcast was spoiler free, what did I actually think of the book?
Well...

In her final days, a woman makes a desperate bid to survive and becomes a growing menace to innocents and criminals alike. Now the criminal Rose Red, she will obtain her goals and stay alive, no matter how high the body count rises.

In his debut novel, Thomas Deja brings together a diverse quartet of mysterious beings to combat a threat to the city of Nocturne, Florida.

While the Black Talon was already an active character at the start of the novel, his girlfriend reluctantly uses the code name Dream Catcher when in public; because she does not really consider herself a crime fighter. However Night Breaker was just a character on a radio show and the person who becomes The Ferry Man had no heroic aspirations at all when the story begins.

Yet these four people wind up being the only ones who are able to stop Rose Red and restore order in Nocturne, although their adventures are far from over at the end of the first book.

Out of all the characters within the tale, the Ferry Man bears watching, and I felt sorry for poor Isaiah Copper even before the cataclysmic events that dragged him into the battle with Rose Red. The villainess her self was unique not only for the pre-World War Two time period the first adventure is set in, but her initial choice of weapons (her 'thorns') was totally appropriate.

As revealed in the podcast, Deja has long term plans for the characters. While most media today is a combination of both words and pictures, he does an excellent job of not only conveying the action and drama in just straight prose, yet delves into social situations that unfortunately existed back then, but are hopefully better today. Overall, a good and recommended read for people looking for something different with their superheroes, or mystery men and women.

I look forward to future installments and adventures of the Shadow Legion.

DO THE REPUBLICANS EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING?

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EDITORIAL

Since returning for the 2013 Fall session, Congressional Republicans have failed for the FORTY-SECOND! time to repeal the health care program known as Obama Care. That is two more attempts since their summer break, and way too many to begin with!

Meanwhile, some of that "august" group have vowed to not pass a new federal budget, effectively shutting down the United States government come October 1, unless Obama Care is at least defunded, if not outright stricken from the law books. For whatever reason(s), these Republicans are desperate to prevent the Affordable Healthcare Act, aka: Obama Care from going into action, despite the fact that even the United States Supreme Court has upheld the policy!

It is bad enough that many Americans cannot afford health care at the moment, something Obama Care sincerely wants to address. But between Republican muckraking and tinkering, when the law will be allowed to act, let alone whether or not it will be as effective as originally envisioned, remains to be seen.

There are some people who want to see the participating Republicans arrested as terrorists, since they are threatening the well being of this country. Even if this action is legitimate, such extreme measures are a very last resort.

The Free Choice E-zine encourages all its readership to contact their Congressional representatives, especially those actively participating in the above mentioned action, and urge them to do the right thing in regards to this country and their constituents, the people they are supposed to be working for and representing to begin with.

Otherwise, remind them that come the next election, they can always find themselves out of a job.

Clowning around

Hello Everybody! Autumn the Puppy here!
Last week, Waxy Dragon joked about elephants, so this week, let's talk about the rest of the circus.

The circus had a biblical act where a lion laid down with a lamb. Whenever it didn't work out, the circus would just buy a new lamb and not feed the lion that night.

Did you hear that the Rubber Man had to be hospitalized?
He had a blowout.

What did the sword swallower say when he accidentally picked up the clown's foot?
"My, but that tastes flat."

The Human Skeleton wanted a unique disguise for Halloween, so he ate a lot of olives until he looked like a string of beads.

What's all that commotion over by the sideshow tent?
The fire eater ate something that didn't agree with him, so now everyone is in a rush to cure his hiccups!

Did you hear about the retired basketball player who joined the circus?
He's now starring as the world's tallest midget.

When exploring history, BC does NOT stand for Before Circus.

Every circus dreads the giraffes catching a cold. After all, can you imagine the vet trying to stand on a ladder to treat its sore throat?

The school children went on a tour of the circus. Looking at the lions in their cages, they were told that despite their size, the lions were nothing but big pussycats.
"I'm not sure I believe it," replied one student. "Between the wagging tail and the roaring mouth full of teeth, I'm not sure which end to trust."

A man went to apply for a job at the circus, telling the manager he could do bird imitations.
"That's nothing. I already have a lot of people who can do bird noises," replied the manager.
"Oh well," said the man. Then he started flapping his arms and flew off.

But now, before we go, from one of my favorite films, the most appropriate circus song I know.

*Financial company J. P. Morgan Chase was fined $920 million United States dollars for illegal practices involving 2012 trade losses.
*Edi Rama is the new Prime Minister of Albania.
*Civil unrest continues in Iraq and Afghanistan.

CONCERNING SYRIA
*The United States and Russia have brokered a deal for Syria to give up its chemical weapons, but the factions within that country are divided on the issue.
*The United Nations' investigation has confirmed the use of saran gas in the Ghouta attacks.
*Meanwhile, Syria has filed paperwork revealing details of its armaments with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
