Amongst events that have happened around the world this past week:
*The 2012 Presidential election has officially begun in earnest with incumbent Democrat Barack Obama accepting the nomination of his party to run for a second term.
*Canada has severed all diplomatic ties with Iran.
*New questions have started to arise, wondering if former defense attorney Johnny Cochran might have tampered with the infamous gloves in the O. J. Simpson murder trial.
*Scientists are investigating why the waters of the Yangtze River have suddenly turned red.
*The Curiosity Probe continues its exploration of Mars, as stunning new pictures have been released by NASA, including an aerial shot from the unit's orbital base of the explorer's passage across the Martian landscape. For more information, visit www.nasa.gov
*Meanwhile, NASA's Dawn probe has left the asteroid Vesta and is in route to explore the dwarf planet Ceres.
*One positive thing in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac: the wreckage of the schooner Rachel has resurfaced after being washed up by the storm. The vessel was last scene October 17, 1923 when it ran aground during another tropical storm at the time. All crew disembarked safely, but a search after the storm passed revealed no ship at the time. It was theorized that the Rachel was swept out to sea and sank, but no one ever found the remains until now.
*Civil unrest continues in Syria, Afghanistan, and Bahraini.
*Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification "Church" has passed away.
*Actor Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away after complications from a heart attack.

*The 2012 Summer Paralympics conclude Sunday night. The current medal count is:
