This year marks the 50th anniversaries of the comic book creations Spider-Man, Avengers, and the X-men.
This week marks the 45th anniversary of the musical Archies (their biggest hit will be celebrating its 45th anniversary next year) and the 40th anniversary of the animated Star Trek series.

*Catalonia is hoping to gain its independence from Spain and France.
*Thomas Bach of Germany is the new President of the International Olympics Committee.
*The Church of Wales has approved the ordination of lady bishops.
*Civil unrest continues in Afghanistan, Sinai, Turkey, and Iraq.
CONCERNING SYRIA
*Russia has proposed a peaceful solution to the situation,while France urged the country to turn over its stockpile of chemical weapons to international control.
*While Syria has agreed to France's proposal, but has yet to actually honor it at this posting, the country has applied to join the Chemical Weapons Convention, which outlaws their use and production.
*US President Barack Obama has urged Congress not to vote on taking any military action until all other avenues of negotiation are exhausted.
*However, there is some concern that in the end, physical action may be the deciding factor in settling the problems. United Nations' investigators have confirmed that the Syrian Army is continuing to bomb hospitals and massacre civilians at this posting!
WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
*NASA has confirmed that the Voyager 1 space probe has left the solar system in 2012. It's counterpart, Voyager 2, is expected to do the same by the end of this decade.
*Serena Williams won the Women's Singles title at the 2013 U.S. Open of professional tennis. Rafael Nadal won the Men's Singles title.
*Sound Engineer Ray Dolby, creator of the Dolby NR sound system, has passed away.
*Apple has debuted the iPhone 5c and 5s.
*The 2013 Miss America pageant will be held Sunday night, September 15th.
