THE WEEK IN REVIEW: MARCH 11-18, 2017

AMONGST EVENTS AROUND THE WORLD THIS PAST WEEK…
*Turkey and the Netherlands have expelled each others diplomats from their countries after a diplomatic incident concerning a constitutional referendum.
*Physicists believe they have synthesized time crystals!
*A recently discovered statue in Egypt is believed to possibly be representing Pharaoh Psamtik I.

THE TERRORIST REPORT…
*Bombs are still the terrorists’ weapon of choice against innocent civilian and military targets.
PASSING PARADE…
*Cartoonist Murray Ball (Footrot Flats) is no longer with us.
*The Chameleon’s drummer John Lever has passed away.
*Film producer Jack H. Harris (the original The Blob) is no longer with us.
*Actor Lawrence Montaigne (The original versions of The Great Escape, Star Trek, Escape to Witch Mountain) has taken his last bow on life's stage.
*The 40+ Somali boat refugees killed in an unprovoked helicopter attack off the Yemen coast.
*Underground comic artist Jay Lynch (Garbage Pail Kids) has passed away.
*Singer Joni Sledge of Sister Sledge is no longer with us.

WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA…
POLITICALLY…
*Washington, Hawaii, Oregon, California, Maryland, New York, and Massachusetts requested the Federal Courts to stop the impending revised immigration ban. A Hawaiian Federal Judge has since done so temporarily, stating the ban violates constitutional protections of religion, while a Maryland Federal judge has issued a ban too. A Washington judge has heard the arguments but made no ruling (yet?). The Trump administration vows to “fight all obstacles” to the revised executive order.
*Although the Trump administration has yet to offer any evidence, the Department of Justice has given Congressional subcommittee(s) their records regarding Donald Trump's claims of the Obama administration's wiretapping him. (There are 3 separate links in this item.)
*Investigations into Donald Trump's possible ties to Russia and that country's possible meddling in the 2016 Presidential election are still ongoing.
*Despite the erroneous belief of one Donald Trump supporter, the Sandy Hook tragedy WAS REAL!
ON PRESIDENT TRUMP’S PROPOSED “BUDGET”...
*Unless it is part of his border wall project or military defense, President Trump’s proposed budget is seriously lacking in funds for other departments. He is already on record wanting to close both the Public Broadcasting System (PBS media) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), but neither organization will sit idle in the matter. (There are 3 separate links in this item.)
*Among the programs in danger: Meals on Wheels because "it isn't showing any results".
*Fact checking time! Which programs do and don't actually work???
*Yet not every Congressional Republican is agreeing with President Trump's budget.
*"Offers" for property along the Texas/Mexico border to gain land for President Trump's wall have started being received by people, but at far below fair market value.
MEANWHILE...
*Remember the historic War of the Worlds broadcast in 1930, where Orson Wells and the Mercury Theater of the Air accidentally convinced listeners that Mars was invading Earth? Well, history repeated itself as Amazon’s fake Internet radio station to promote the upcoming third season of The Man in the High Castle was mistaken by the GOP and its supporters as a slam against Donald Trump and his administration.
*While Donald Trump has finally released his 2005 Tax Return, he is hoping to eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax.
*Opinion Time: Tim Allen on the presidency of Donald Trump versus Nazi Germany, circa 1930s.
*What does Donald Trump think of his ex-wife Ivana's impending memoir?
ELSEWHERE…
*WALMART HAS ISSUED A RECALL OF THEIR MARKETSIDE PIZZAS!

*Just how strict should a prom dress code be???
*How to save a life at a McDonald's drive-thru window.
*While some retailers are planning to close stores this year, others are planning new openings.
*Lack of an Oxford comma created a major overtime settlement.
*NBC plans to temporarily spin off Weekend Update from Saturday Night Live to serve as a summer series this August.
*The NCAA College Basketball playoffs more commonly known as “March Madness” are underway in both the men’s and women’s divisions.
