WEEK IN REVIEW: JANUARY 1-7, 2012

Welcome to 2012! Amongst the events that have happened around the world within this first week of the new year include:

*United States President Barack Obama has proposed a plan for a leaner, more economically conscious military while maintaining US forces at their present levels.
*Civil unrest continues in Syria, Kenya,Yemen,  South Sudan, Nigeria, and Bahraini.
*Christopher Loeak has been elected President of the Marshall Islands.
*Mitt Romney is the Republican front runner for President of the United States in a field of 12 after the Iowa Caucus January 3, but none of the other candidates have dropped out of the race yet as all prepare for New Hampshire this coming Tuesday.
*North Korea's various media united New Year's Day to present a joint editorial calling for "human shields" to protect their newly appointed Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, who recently took the office his dead father held.
*NASA's GRAIL (Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory) mission is underway in hopes of completely mapping Earth's moon and determining the composition of its interior.
*New Mexico has celebrated its centennial of being a member of the United States January 6.
