*Hurricane Fred passed through Cape Verde, but has since weakened to a tropical storm as it nears the Azores. People along its projected course are still advised to take caution.
*Some sections of the Dominican Republic have been declared disaster areas after Tropical Storm Erika.
*India has been declared free of maternal and neonatal tetanus. Meanwhile, over 150 million workers went on strike to oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi's labor reforms.
*Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed his country is supporting Syria with weapons and training during their civil war. Meanwhile, the Russian Space Agency has announced it will do something it has yet to do: go to the moon!
*Pope Francis has granted priests the authority to offer absolution to women who have had an abortion.
*After he resigned, Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina was arrested on allegations of customs fraud.
*While the search continues, Poland's central bank governor does not believe that the World War 2 era "Nazi Gold Train" exists.
*Egypt has scheduled parliamentary elections for October 2015.
*The Sumatran Rhino has been officially declared nonexistent in Malaysia, while less than 100 survive world wide.
*Consumer Reports loves the new Tesla rechargeable car, much to other businesses' chagrin. Meanwhile, Google is testing a new driver-less car.

*It has been confirmed that ISIS/ISIL forces have destroyed the ancient temples of Bel and Baalshamin in Palmyra.
*The European Migrant Crisis continues as many flee the troubled areas of the Middle East.

*Horror film director Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream) is no longer with us.
*Noted Neurologist Oliver Sacks has passed away.
*Actor Dean Jones (That Darn Cat, The Love Bug, Beethoven) has taken his last bow on life's stage.
*Actor Alan Steel (Samson, Hercules Against the Moon Men) is no longer with us.
*Chandra Bahadur Dangi, the world's shortest man, has passed away.

WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...
POLITICALLY...
President Barack Obama
*President Barack Obama has agreed to rename Mount McKinley in Alaska its original native name Denali, causing objections amidst the Republican Party. One Republican Presidential hopeful has even gone so far as to promise he would change the name back to Mount McKinley if elected.
*Meanwhile, it is projected that President Obama's veto of the Republican controlled Congress' blockage of the Iranian Nuclear Deal will survive a vote in the Senate and thus allow the United States to accept the proposal.
*As his final year in office approaches, President Obama has set his sights on restoring worker's rights.
*After Presidential hopeful Donald Trump revealed he would raise corporate taxes against business who worked "against America", the Republican Party has started demanding all their candidates sign a loyalty pledge, promising not to run as a third party candidate should they not get the GOP nomination in 2016.
ELSEWHERE...

*The Kentucky court clerk who refused to issue any marriage licenses as part of her continuing stand against same gender weddings has been officially arrested for violating Federal law, not religious persecution as she claims. Meanwhile, while those under her have started issuing marriage licenses again regardless of who wants to get married, that same clerk says the documents are not official since she hasn't signed them and never will.
*Wildfires continue to plague Washington State.
*Hurricane Ignacio skirted Hawaii while Hurricane Jimena missed it completely.
*While there are many that still deny climate change, some scientists predict that California may be due for its own version of Hurricane Katrina.
*During the 2015 West Point Pillow Fight, 30 newly graduated students were injured because they faced pillows with heavy objects in them.
*Tom Brady's Deflate-gate's suspension has been overturned by a Federal judge, but the National Football League says it will appeal the decision.
