DOCTOR MARTIN LUTHER KING, JUNIOR DAY: 2016

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EDITORIAL.

Today we honor the memory, dream, and efforts of Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior. A man who peacefully strove to achieve civil liberties for all.

Kind of ironic when you think about it, considering the current efforts by some to restrict voting rights and the racial tensions not only in some parts of the United States, but some areas of the world as well.

Doctor King's life was tragically cut short by an assassin, but we should never forget the ideals and lessons he tried to share in the brief time he was with us.

Voting is the foundation stone for political action.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

I have decided to stick to love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

Wise words to think about, even today!
