JANUARY 14 IS NATIONAL FOREST CONSERVATION DAY IN THAILAND.
TODAY IS ALSO RATIFICATION DAY IN THE UNITED STATES, WHEN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION WAS OFFICIALLY DECLARED OVER.
TODAY IS ALSO THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HUMAN BE-IN, WHICH OFFICIALLY KICKED OFF THE SUMMER OF LOVE IN 1967.
JANUARY 16 IS MARTIN LUTHER KING, JUNIOR DAY IN THE USA.

AMONGST EVENTS AROUND THE WORLD THIS PAST WEEK...
*An unprecedented winter storm hit Europe this week, disrupting traffic, electricity, and other services in England and France while actually freezing the Danube River!
*In radio, Norway hopes to completely switch from analog to digital audio broadcasting by the end of this year.
*After analyzing lunar minerals brought back during the Apollo program, an UCLA research team,  reports that the moon is at least 4.51 billion years old, which makes it up to 150 million years older than previous estimates.

*Bombs still seem to be the premiere weapon of choice, with several incidents reported across the Middle East over the past week.

*Comedian Tony Rosato (Saturday Night Live, SCTV) has taken his last bow on life's stage.
*Singer/pianist Buddy Greco is no longer with us.
*Artist Tony Booth (most famous as a publicist helping Brian Epstein promote The Beatles) has passed away.
*Novelist William Peter Blatty (The Exorcist) is no longer with us.
*Actor Dick Gautier (credits too numerous to mention) has taken his last bow on life's stage.

WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...
POLITICALLY...
*President-elect Donald Trump has appointed businessman/son-in-law Jared Kushner as his senior adviser, but is his administration facing a crisis before he has even officially taken office?
*Among his final acts as President, Barack Obama gave a moving farewell address on national television Wednesday night, awarded Vice President Joe Biden the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction, the end of the Wet Feet/Dry Feet policy in regards to undocumented immigrants from Cuba, and easing sanctions against Sudan.
*Still doubting any Russian involvement in the 2016 Presidential election, Donald Trump is making his opinions known on Twitter once again. (There are 2 separate links in that item.)
MEANWHILE...
*Despite Donald Trump's campaign promises, will America still lose jobs to China?
*The Congressional hearings to approve Donald Trump's cabinet picks are underway, but it isn't easy, including at least one witness against a choice. (There are 3 separate links in that item.)
*Congress has also taken the first steps toward their goal of repealing the Affordable Health Care Act (aka Obama Care). However, no replacement plan for the AHCA has been announced. Yet some suspect this may cause problems between Trump and the Republican dominated Congress. (There are 2 separate links in that item.)
*The IRS plans to delay tax refunds for millions of low-income families over issues of fraud and identity theft.
*Congress is addressing the issue of "abusive" legislation. But what is their definition of "abusive"?

*La-La Land was the big winner at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards (including Best Picture, Ryan Gosling Best Actor, Emma Stone Best Actress, in the Musical/Comedy genre).
*Clemson University's team defeated Alabama's to win the 2017 NCAA College Football Playoff National Championship.
*In professional football, the Chargers will officially move from San Diego to Los Angeles, starting with the 2017 season later this year.
