THE PUZZLE CORNER: SEPTEMBER 30, 2023

 ðŸ˜ŽFUN FACT
Carbon Nanotubes are 50,000 times thinner than a human hair but 200 times stronger than steel!

COMMON BONDS
The items in each subset below have something in common. Do you know what it is?
01. {Prince, Paul McCarthy} and we know they’re both musicians.
02. {Terry McGinnis, Eric Matthews}

REBUS
Something familiar is represented in the image below. Do you know what it is?

We’ll reveal all next weekend but for now, let’s open up THE ANSWERS BOX📦 and discover the results from the September 23, 2023 Puzzle Corner.

THE 50/50 CHANCE
Just like a regular TRIVIA TIME question except there are only two possible answers, hence the even odds of getting it right. Ready?
TRUE or FALSE: Eggcorn is edible.
FALSE! Eggcorn is actually a word or phrase that is a seemingly logical alteration of another word or phrase that sounds similar but has been misheard or misinterpreted. Like “Old Wise Tale” instead of “Old Wives’ Tale”.

QUOTE THIS
A famous quote is below. All you have to do is name the speaker and the source. Ready?
“A man either lives life as it happens to him, meets it head-on and licks it, or he turns his back on it and starts to wither away.”
Dr. Boyce of Star Trek, as played by John Hoyt in either the original pilot “The Cage” or its two part presentation during “The Menagerie” in the first season of The Original Series.

SUNDAY FUNNIES: HANGING OUT WITH COUSIN TREY

Waxy Dragon
Hello Everybody! Waxy Dragon here.
Now being a companion dragon, I like to think I have an unique perspective on life, but it doesn't beat my Cousin Trey's.

Trey is the only dragon I know that can be right, wrong, and undecided at the same time.
Don't get me wrong. I love my cousin. After all, if I don't, who will? But sometimes...
In any event, here are some of Cousin Trey's opinions, whether you want them or not.

If you're too open minded, your brains will fall out.
Cousin Trey

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, if he gets angry, he'll be a mile away and barefoot.

Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

A closed mouth gathers no feet.

My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance.

If you look like your passport picture, you really need the trip.

Bills travel through the mail at twice the speed of checks.

A conscience is what hurts when the rest of you feels so good.

And for those interested, when Cousin Trey grows up, he wants to pursue a career in politics!
On that note♫, have a great week everybody and please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies!—wd.

♫I need you more than want you...♫

FAMOUS FIRSTS
The opening line to a book is below. Do you know what the novel is?

It was always the same for her when she arrived to meet the body.

We’ll reveal all next weekend, but for now, let’s open up THE ANSWERS BOX and discover the results from the September 23, 2017 Puzzle Corner.

BEFORE AND AFTER
Two separate things share at least one word in common, so can be combined to form something new. Based upon the clue below, do you know what the new thing is?

Retired baseball player turned mystery writer?

Charles Todd Walker
Charles Todd is famous for writing the Inspector Ian Rutledge and Bess Crawford mysteries, while Todd Walker is a retired eleven year veteran of Major League Baseball turned announcer.
While there are other former athletes who turned to writing, this is the combination we were thinking of that fits the BEFORE AND AFTER category.

TRIVIA TIME
Who or what is Cullan Skink?
It’s a variety of fish.

SUNDAY FUNNIES: SPEAKING WORDS OF WISDOM...

One smart dragon
Hello Everybody. Ms. Waxy Dragon here!
Today we conclude our month long helpful Back To School theme with some helpful hints to get you through your day.
Ready?

*There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take the time to look for it.
*Birds of a feather flock together, and can really make a mess of your car if you're not careful.
*If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
*Don't automatically assume malice for what stupidity can explain.
*The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment. After all, it's better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.
*The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because your body and your fact are really good friends by now and don't want to part company.
*The easiest way to find something you lost is to buy a replacement.
*If you think there is good in everybody, then you haven't really met everyone yet.
*If you can smile when things go wrong, then you probably have someone in mind to blame.

With that folks, I bid you adieu. Have a great week and please be back here again next weekend for more Sunday Funnies.-wd.
