THE WEEK IN REVIEW: MAY 1-7, 2011

Today in America is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, a celebration of the art form.
Tomorrow is MOTHER'S DAY.

Amongst the events that have occurred around the world this past week are:
*Terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden was shot and killed while resisting arrest when American military forces raided his (apparently unknown to that country) Pakistan compound. Evidence found since indicates that the mastermind behind the September 11, 2011 attack against America and other terrorist acts was hoping to stage new evil against Humanity either on July 4th or the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center attack this September.
*Civil unrest, riots, and rebellion continues in the Middle East, including Syria and Libya.
*Pope Benedict XVI beatified his predecessor Pope John Paul II May 1.

IN SPORTS...
*This year marks the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park, home to the Boston (Massachusetts) Red Sox of Major League Baseball, the 60th anniversary of the Topps Card company producing baseball cards, and the 50th anniversary of the California Angels as a Major League Baseball team.
*The 137th running of the Kentucky Derby horse race was won by Magic Kingdom. (updated item)

IN ENTERTAINMENT NEWS...
*Musician Paul McCartney (The Beatles, Wings) is now engaged to businesswoman Nancy Shevell. No date or other plans have been announced for the wedding yet.
*Playwright Arthur Laurents (West Side Story, Gypsy) has passed away.
