THE WEEK IN REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 30-OCTOBER 6, 2012

*This is the 50th anniversary of Doctor No, the first James Bond movie's initial release.

Amongst events that have happened around the world this past week:
*Incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama faced Republican hopeful Mitt Romney in a televised debate Wednesday night. The Obama Truth Team has since reported that the former Massachusetts Governor told 27 lies in 38 minutes, while Romney himself said (and this is a direct quote) "I am not going to keep on spending money on things, to borrow money from China to pay for unnecessary things" the government currently contributes to, A HIT LIST THAT INCLUDES PBS!
*Since Romney's comments Wednesday night, there has been plenty of new online support expressed for PBS and its programs, including Sesame Street, since the Republican hopeful mentioned that specifically during his statement.
*A Maine US Senator hopeful is being criticized not for her record or political views, but for her hobbies!
Democratic candidate Colleen Lachowicz is being ostracized for playing the online game World of Warcraft! Republican candidate, incumbent Senator Tom Martin; or people on his behalf, have gone as far as posting an image of her game character and reprinting posts from the private message board players share with each other! Meanwhile Blizzard Entertainment, corporate owners of World of Warcraft, are looking into possible legal action against the Republican Senatorial campaign on copyright infringement and invasion of privacy issues.
*California has become the first member of the United States to outlaw "conversion therapy" on minors. The new measure will take effect January 1, 2013.
*Pope Benedict XVI's former butler was found guilty of theft and leaking confidential documents. Paolo Gabriele has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.
*Civil unrest continues in Syria and Afghanistan.

IN SPORTS...
*Europe won the 39th Ryder Cup in professional golf.
*First there was ten, now there's eight. With an additional wild card this season because of pending league rearrangements next year, Major League Baseball had a one game playoff between TWO wild card teams on each side. National League Saint Louis Cardinals beat the Atlanta Braves, in part because of a controversial call, while the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Texas Rangers in the American League. Now the Orioles will face the New York Yankees (American League East Division winner), while the Detroit Tigers (AL Central) will face the Oakland A's (AL West). Meanwhile the Cardinals will face the National League East Division winning Washington Nationals while NL Central division winner Cincinnati Reds will face NL West winner San Francisco Giants in the traditional best 3 out of 5 games first round.
