PUZZLE CORNER: AUGUST 10, 2013

It's that time again. Sharpen your wits and lets keep our minds active with a few enigmas.

THE FIFTY-FIFTY CHANCE
This is just like a regular Trivia Time question, but there are only two possible answers, hence the even odds of getting it right. Ready?

Is effluvia a good thing?

THE LETTER SHUFFLE
For better or worse, we haven't played this in a while, so I'll go easy on you, this time.

How many words can you make out of SUMMER?
Hint: there are a few!

We'll reveal all next time. But for now, let's take a peek inside THE ANSWERS BOX and reveal the results from the August 3, 2013 Puzzle Corner.

TRIVIA TIME
Although not officially recognized on the calendar, what are "the dog days of summer"?
NOTE: Although the Southern Hemisphere has theirs at a different time than the Northern Hemisphere of Earth, the name and the question are still applicable.

The dog days are usually the hottest part of the season, and the name is derived from Sirius, the dog star; who the ancient Romans once believed was responsible for the oppressive heat.
