*Former Army Sgt. Robert Bales has been sentenced to life without parole for killing 16 Afghan civilians in March 2012.
*Former Army Major Nidal Malik Hassan has been convicted on multiple murder counts in the 2009 Fort Hood massacre.
*Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has announced he will retire from his position sometime within the year.
*NASA has announced it will reactivate the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) to search for asteroids at risk of colliding with Earth.
*Author Elmore Leonard (Get Shorty, Mr. Majestyk) passed away, following complications after a stroke.
