TODAY IS THE INFAMOUS(?) IDES OF MARCH.

AMONGST EVENTS THAT HAVE HAPPENED AROUND THE WORLD THIS PAST WEEK...
*Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is still missing, and authorities now believe it might have been hijacked, present whereabouts unknown.
*The Libyan Parliament has replaced Prime Minister Ali Zedian with their Defense Secretary Abdullah al-Thani as acting Prime Minister.
*New Zealand is scheduled to hold a general election September 20, 2014. The country is also planning a referendum to consider changing the design of their national flag.
*Fyffes of Ireland and Chiquita of America are planning a merger that would create the world's largest banana company.
*Fiji is fighting an outbreak of dengue fever.
*Civil unrest continues in Syria, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

ON THE UKRAINE-CRIMEA SITUATION:
*Although it is only under consideration, Russia says any United States financial aid to the Ukraine is illegal.
*Officials have threatened to shut down all Ukrainian supplied electricity and water if a planned separation referendum is held March 16th.
*United States Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov met at a neutral site in London to discuss the situation. No word on the outcome of those talks.
