THE PUZZLE CORNER: OCTOBER 15, 2016

FUN FACT
While most associate legendary voice artist Mel Blanc with the Warner Brothers' "stable" of cartoon characters, he was actually the first to perform Woody Woodpecker.

BEFORE AND AFTER
Two separate things have at least one word in common, and thus can be combined to form something new. Based upon the clue below, do you know what the new thing is?

An orb's water?

THE TV GAME (NEW to The Free Choice!)
This is a game that dates back to at least when I was in elementary school, if not earlier in history.
All you have to do is identify the television series based upon its initials, but we've played fair and included the years it was on too. Ready?

KFAO (1948-1971)

We'll reveal all next weekend. But for now, let's open up THE ANSWERS BOX and discover the results of the October 8, 2016 Puzzle Corner.

FAMOUS FIRSTS
Who was the first captain of the Starship Enterprise?
Depends upon how you look at it.
Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) was the captain of the NX-01 on Star Trek: Enterprise.
Robert April was the captain of record while the Enterprise NCC-1701 was being constructed, but Christopher Pike (Jeffery Hunter) was in command when the ship was on active duty (the original Star Trek pilot: "The Cage".)
Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) took command later in the vessel's history.

TRIVIA TIME
Although a misnomer in description, what is "the clean side" of a hurricane?
ANSWER: While no hurricane should be taken lightly, the winds and rain are not quite as strong on the "clean" side, compared to the "dirty" side.
