*Antonio Guterres of Portugal has been elected as the United Nations' new Secretary General.
*A summit between India and Russia has produced deals concerning energy and defense between the two countries.
*A sanctuary for rescued elephants is now open in Brazil.

THE 2016 NOBEL PRIZES
*Bob Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his songwriting career while Oliver Hart and Bengt R. Holmström share the honor in the field of Economics.
*The 2010 season premiere of The Simpsons is being accredited with accurately predicting the (co)winner of the 2016 Economics Prize.

THE TERRORIST REPORT...
*While bombs are still the terrorist weapon of choice, there is just too much violence in the world today as it is.
*Houthi rebels might be responsible for the October 9th attack on the U.S.S. Mason.
*Boko Haram forces have released 21 of the 270 high school girls they kidnapped back in 2014 as part of peace negotiations with Nigeria, but 218 of the ladies are still unaccounted for.
*While it appears to be a personal suicide, the crash of a private jet near a major industrial complex in East Hartford, Connecticut is still being investigated by the FBI for possible terrorism connection(s).

*Actress Patricia Barry (All My Children, The Guiding Light, Days of Our Lives) has taken her last bow on life's stage.
*Special effects technician/make up artist John Vulich (Babylon 5, The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) is no longer with us.
*Comedic actor Thomas Mikal Ford (Martin, Harlem Nights) has taken his last bow on life's stage.

WITHIN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...
POLITICALLY...
*Many believe Hillary Clinton won the second Presidential debate (Sunday, October 9) against Donald Trump.
*With the various problems his campaign faces, Trump is now criticizing those of the Jewish faith for some of his troubles, but has vowed to continue campaigning until the election results are final, even if that means going against the Republican Party itself.
*The final debate between Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton and Republican hopeful Donald Trump is scheduled for Wednesday night, October 19th.
MEANWHILE...
*The United States Supreme Court (still short one Justice because of Republicans in Congress) is hearing arguments in Apple v. Samsung concerning smart phone designs.
*The Obama Administration has announced it hopes mankind reaches Mars sometime during the 2030s.
ELSEWHERE...
*Samsung has ended production on the Galaxy 7 smart phone after continued problems with its battery.
*John Stumpf has resigned as CEO and chairman of Wells Fargo because of continued scandal concerning its sales practices
*The Toronto Blue Jays are competing the Cleveland Indians while the Los Angeles Dodger are facing the Chicago Cubs to determine who will represent each side in the 2016 World Series of Major League Baseball later this month.
*Janet Jackson has confirmed she is pregnant with her first child, at age 50.
