THE WEEK IN REVIEW: APRIL 8-14, 2012

Sunday night marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic during its maiden voyage.
The Boston Red Sox mark their 100th anniversary of playing professional baseball at Fenway Park in Massachusetts (USA) this season.
Those needing to file income tax returns with the United States of America have until April 17th to do so.
EARTH DAY IS APRIL 22!

Amongst events that have happened around the world this past week...
*North Korea's attempt to launch a long range rocket failed miserably, despite the fact that South Korea and the rest of the free world were worried about the event. However a few pundits are wondering if the results were genuine or staged. South Korean naval vessels are now searching their territorial waters for rocket debris to study.
*Joyce Banda is now the President of Malawi, following the passing of previous President Bingu wa Mutharika.
*Civil unrest continues in Syria, the Sudan-South Sudan border, and Bahraini.
*Apple, Inc claims the company is now worth over $600 Billion US Dollars. If the value is accurate, this makes it the largest publicly traded company in the free world.
*Long time CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace has passed away at the age of 93.

IN AMERICAN POLITICS:
*Rick Santorum has decided to end his bid for the 2012 Republican nomination. Although his daughter is ill, that was not specifically cited amongst his reasons for dropping out.
*For all intents and purposes, it looks like Mitt Romney will be the GOP's candidate for the 2012 Presidential campaign this fall, although he still does not have the required number of delegates to obtain the position yet.
*There is still much to decide between now and the Republican National Convention this June. A Vice-Presidential running mate has yet to be chosen, and it is unknown at this time what will happen to the delegates pledged to Santorum, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul, especially considering the other two gentlemen are still campaigning.

IN ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:
*Based solely upon the number of tickets sold, The Lion King has surpassed Phantom of the Opera as the all time, most successful production on Broadway.

IN SPORTS:
*Professional golfer Bubba Watson won the US Masters tournament.
